Gauteng 2023 Highlights

Township Hub activity were the order of the day as part of the Growing Gauteng Together 2030 strategy.  The GDED with whom BPESA are working hopes to keep expanding the number of opportunities for job seekers and roll-out to more sites. [source: Business Live]

The Nasrec site was launched by MEC Tasneem Motara earlier in the year.

GGDA supported BPESA’s efforts to engage industry CEO’s at their quarterly Forum hosted 20 July.  The event was hosted at CSA’s Waterfall Campus.  The event was well attended.  The Gauteng Portfolio was officially handed over to Lynn Davis at the event.

Gauteng as part of their regional participation were represented at the National GBS Conference by MEC Tasneem Mortara who showcased a few case studies of the work that was done to encourage the township economy.  She was supported at the event by the Acting GGDA CEO Mr Saki. 

Lastly, as part of ongoing efforts to engage key government partners and stakeholders BPESA were able to meet with the City of Tshwane’s Hannes Coetzee, MMC for Economic

Development at the CoT during the last quarter of the year, signifying a partnership that will kick in, early in the new year.

Gauteng participated in several intermediary skills funded programmes ranging from ABSA, JF7 and the UNDP extension programme.  We had positive participation and contributions from our members on the ground.

We were able to achieve the re-engagement of the GDED, GGDA, COJ and CoT teams for us to work together once more on getting Gauteng youth into work and investors to become interested in Gauteng once more.

Gauteng currently hold the lion’s share of membership with a large vendor community.  Efforts to increase the influx of international BPO’s is underway.

During the course of 2023 Gauteng was able to land a US based BPO. Current expansion plans from a few locally based BPO’s is also underway with the first quarter of 2024 set to be exciting.
