Driving Growth: BPESA's Strategic Initiatives and Collaborations in 2024

2024 provides us, yet again, to deliver absolute and consistent value to our existing members and, our new incoming members. As such, after considered discussions, we have in principle commitment from Trade and Investment KZN (TIKZN) to funding and supporting the research and development of the following: the revision of the KZN Value Proposition Development, the conceptualisation and detailed implementation plan for the KZN Regional Incentive Development and, the KZN GBS Precinct Development. The formal proposal has already been delivered to TIKZN and we await their response on how we now proceed. Off the December 2023 engagement with the KZN Department of Labour, the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and, the eThekwini Mayor’s Office we have been submitted a formal proposal combined with letters of support from our KZN operators on a pioneering GBS Job Creation Programme to the Department of Labour for KZN.

In the build up to our 2024 membership renewal drive, we conducted an informal membership survey on the BPESA value proposition to selected KZN and Western Cape (WC) members, asking specifically what BPESA needs to do in 2024 to enhance or add further value to its members. This was also supported by a structured discussion internally on how we, as BPESA, revisit the membership tiers, the attendant pricing, overall membership brochure content and, ensuring that each portfolio comprehensively demonstrates – to our new and existing members as well as partners and stakeholders– the value that BPESA offers. To this end from a KZN perspective, respective Memoranda of Agreements (MOAs) have been renewed and signed off by BPESA KZN with TIKZN and the eThekwini Municipality Economic Development Unit going into the next three years.

Alignment by the respective parties on the BPESA National - Cape BPO MOU has been reached and we are confident of concluding the joint sign off of the MOU by the beginning of the 2nd Quarter of 2024.  From a skills perspective, we successfully closed off on the Work Readiness Training component of Programme 3, Phase 1 of the BPESA KZN – eThekwini Municipality GBS Skills Development Project. We are now focused on the Digital Skills, and Leadership Development components of the project. Dedicated site visits and engagements with the KZN operator and vendor community have informed how we fashion each of the above skills development interventions. The BPESA KZN team also provided support – where required - for the GIFS, ABSA, and UNDP – GIZ projects. Respective regional CEO Dinners are in planning phase with the KZN CEO Dinner and Forum scheduled for the 27th of March 2024 and, the Western Cape CEO Dinner and Forum scheduled tentatively for mid-April 2024.
